Clef keeps a user's identity on their phone. Your site displays a unique Clef Code which the user scans with our app to log in. The app pairs the user with the unique code given to your site on our server, and we let you know which user is logging in. If it's a user's first time to your site, we request the user's permission to grant you the information you've requested, and pass you that information if they accept.

Is Clef more secure than usernames and passwords?

Yes, Clef is orders of magnitude more secure than usernames and passwords. We use 2048-bit RSA asymmetric keys to identify users and PKCS#5 encryption. Our entire architecture is built to handle breaches — even if our entire database was exposed, a hacker still wouldn't be able to impersonate a user.
