Is now the right time to update?
Yes! Should we update our site to a totally new version of WordPress now? The Christmas and the New Year are coming up, and this is one of the busiest time of the year. If this is the situation of your company, we recommend: postpone the update. In addition, there may be some minor bug in the new version until the next releases. In fact, as multiple patch releases are being planned already, the WordPress must be more stable in January.
Can your site work with Gutenberg?
Gutenberg is expected to be a drag n drop plugin that allows the user to be easier and more convenient to create a rich multimedia content. However, many users feel that it's not completely ready for the live site now.
If you check it on WordPress Plugin Directory, you can see that it got only 2.2 out of 5 rating average on the Gutenberg plugin. At the time of writing this article, there are 1066 one-star ratings vs 404 five-star ratings/ 1,784 reviews.
Despite the negative reviews, the WordPress core team has made the Gutenberg as default editor in WordPress 5.0 which make a lot of user confused. Therefore, if you don't want to use this new plugin or if you're not sure all the plugin on your site is compatible with Gutenberg, you should wait.
Do you need WordPress 5.0?
The update 5.0 is a version for the new feature: Gutenberg editor. If you're not hungry for this editor, our advice is to wait for the more stable version of WordPress in January.(See Revo theme here)
